Which airports and weather stations are covered by WX2ME?
WX2ME covers all weather stations (mainly airports) in North America and major stations throughout the world. Please note that not every airport in North America issues official METAR and TAF reports. top

Can I request more than one aviation weather report at the same time?
Yes. You may request multiple METAR or TAF reports at the same time. To do this specify M or T and enter the aerodrome codes leaving a space between each one. You must use either ICAO codes only or IATA codes only to specify the stations (not a combination of IATA and ICAO codes) (i.e. M KSFO KSJC KOAK or M SFO SJC OAK). Multiple weather reports cannot be requested using the name lookup function.

You may also request both the METAR and TAF reports for an aerodrome
at the same time. The command for this is MT or TM followed by a space and the aerodrome code(s) in which you are interested (i.e. MT KBOS).

How does the free trial work? What if I did not receive a message back?
You are able to try WX2ME for free by simply requesting a METAR from your phone - no registration required! View free trial for instructions and terms.

If you sent a "trial" message to WX2ME and received no reply it is possible that WX2ME is not able send the reply via our main gateway - this is a rare situation that affects trial use only (because WX2ME does not know which carrier your phone uses). To access WX2ME's free trial using a different gateway send your METAR request to the following alternate number: (416) 887-6127 (all other steps are the same as normal free trial use)

Additionally, please view the other potential sources of difficulty in the next FAQ.

I do not receive any reply when I request an aviation weather report. What's wrong ?

Check the following:

a) Does your mobile (cell) phone have space in memory to receive more SMS (text) messages? Certain phones can store no more than 20 messages. You may have to delete some old messages to make room for new ones. The process of deleting messages varies by phone and you should consult your phone's user manual or carrier/phone company for specific instructions. However, generally, you can delete a message by opening it and selecting Options. To open a message select Messages followed by Inbox and choose the message you would like to open.

b) Are you sending the request to the correct number? The correct number is (416) 887-6127.

c) Is the phone you are using to send the request registered with WX2ME? Each phone must be registered individually (your account is based on the phone number of the sending phone). If you have not registered the phone with WX2ME please do so here to go to sign up.

The demo version is only made possible to users on a trial basis. If you have been using a demo version it is possible that you must register to continue using the service.

d) Are the messages you send actually being sent? If your phone is out of range if cannot send SMS (text) messages. Check that you have signal and can make a regular phone call to verify that you are within range.

e) Have you asked your carrier to block incoming text messages and/or emails? Does your carrier require you to register for text messaging and/or email? Some carriers (e.g. Spring, Nextel) require their customers to request that they be able to send and receive text messages and/or email while others automatically activate these services for every phone. If you have never sent a text message and have never received a text message it is possible that your carrier is blocking these services from your phone. To activate text messaging and for more please contact your carrier and indicate that you would like to be able to send and receive text messages and emails.

f) If you are still experiencing difficulties send us an email explaining the problem. Please include your mobile (cell) phone number, carrier (phone company) and the time the problem occurred.

Why is there a delay when I request an aviation weather report from WX2ME?

Generally, WX2ME receives incoming messages within five seconds and sends out replies within three seconds.

If you are experiencing delays in reply time it is most likely becasue of the way in which your carrier delivers messages to your phone. During high traffic periods it is possible that your phone company's network is slowed down because the same connections are used for voice calls as for SMS (text) messaging. Additionally, although less likely, is the possibility that your phone company is delayed in sending the message to WX2ME because of network traffic. As a result you may not receive a reply message for up to a minute, or in rare cases, longer.

It is also possible that your phone has lost signal before the reply message was received. If this happens your phone company will try to send the message to your phone again after waiting a few moments. Depending on your phone company, signal strength may be erratic in some areas or disrupted if you enter a tunnel while driving, etc.

When I write a message to send on my phone (e.g. M KJFK) different text appears in the phone display. Why?

It is most likely that you have the Predictive text (T9 or iTAP Dictionary) function activated. This function is designed to help you type words that are in your phone's dictionary and may be idicated by an icon in the corner of the screen. To enter station codes you may have to deactivate this function (or enter the codes into your phone's dictionary).

The method for deactivating predictive text (T9 or iTAP) is dependent on your phone. From the screen where you write the message many phones allow you to change the option by pressing the # sign once or twice. On other models you may have to select "menu" or "options" and then select the method of entering text that allows you to enter station codes easiest - it may be labeled "ALPHA" or "ABC".

For more specific instructions refer to your phone's user manual.

What if I my number or carrier changes?
If your mobile (cell) phone number changes or you change carriers (in accordance with number portability in the US) you must inform WX2ME of the change so your account can be properly configured.

To do this now, contact WX2ME and indicate your: 1. Your name, 2. Your new phone number and carrier, 3. Your old phone number and carrier.

What if more than one weather station matches the text command I enter?
If you search for a weather station by a name and more than one station matches the name you entered WX2ME will return to you a list of the matched stations and the corresponding ICAO codes. If you search by name WX2ME will only return station meatches in the US and Canada. You can then submit a request for the report you would like using the exact ICAO code. All
ICAO codes are unique so only one will match your request.

Keep in mind that you must always specify the type of aviation weather report you would like by entering M for METAR or T for TAF followed by a space before the ICAO/IATA code or name for which you would like the report.

Do I pay for each message sent from my phone or for each message I receive?
WX2ME does not charge per message fees but rather provides a monthly or annual delivery service. Unlimited use is included with our monthly and annual subscriptions. WX2ME does not charge for the aviation weather reports but rather the service of delivering the reports to your cell phone and enabling you to request them from your cell phone.

Any fees associated with sending and/or receiving SMS (text) messages are based on individual carriers. Generally, there is a nominal charge for each SMS (text) message sent (5-10 cents per message), while receiving messages is free. Most carriers offer packages that allow you to pre-pay for unlimited messages or receive a bulk rate (in some cases the cost is less than 1 cent per message).

If you are unsure of your costs for sending and receiving SMS (text) messages please consult your service provider (carrier).

The payment did not show up on my credit card bill, or the payment shows up as "MOBILE ELEMENTS" on my credit card bill. Why?
