i think that i will have to open it up. you're my saviour! Put a fresh set of batteries back in (preferably rechargeable NiMH 2500mah or better) and turn the camera on. How To Restart Canon Camera Lens popped right out (instead of beeping and saying "lens error") and functioned as normal.
I was sitting down on the floor so I didn't hit it hard, but that did it. Again, the goal is to attempt to straighten or align the barrel if it's crooked or twisted. Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. Eventually i slowly applied pressure on the focas len, and the zoom mechinism, when it was switching off, and it make a click.
