Beware, the door on the battery/memory card area is fragile and the hinge on mine has broken, but still works with tape. I'm not sure what caused it in the first place because I treated my camera really well, but at least I know a quick fix now. That's about the worst thing you can do and it rarely fixes it like some say, and if so it's temporary. Canons response was it was "Impact Damaged" and not covered but we could pay them to fix it - I don't think so! It's trying so hard to get the lens out, but I think it's on its last legs. Other cameras of the same generation like the sd850 (75), sd750 (92), sd1100 (45) have many more reports of the error. Cameras And Parts Canon should be avoided at all costs for these repairs unless you want to pay through the roof. So my advice which is based on experience, unfortunately I would not put Canon at the top of my list for fixing these, the smaller shops tend to be a lot Big Mistake! Then the story changed and I got sand in it, IMPOSSIBLE! news Lense pooped backed into place and then camera worked.
I tried it. Most of them will work on all the major brands. The error is due to a fall it took. I wanted this 'water proof' camera for a raft trip in September.

Compressed air is bad for these cameras because it's vapor, the worst thing you can spray onto an imaging sensor.
Canon Support gave me the complete blow over. Try the following:\015\012\015\0121. That gets the dust and dirt all over the imaging sensor at the back of the lens. Maybe $225.
