I've downloaded one of the recommended software retrieval options ready to use. My Canon Rebel Xs had the same problem, saying card write protected, but i tried many different memory cards and still no luck. I'm going to try replacing the date battery. An old card had broken inside the slot, like another user posted before, so I tried the toothpick and was able to dislodge "something" inside which might have been a piece I just used the plastic tooth-pick method on my Panasonic ZS10 and it now works fine. I tried another card, same result. Thank you so very much. In the System folder, find a file called mmcstore 4. Is it possible that I might have damaged something trying to take whatever was inside out?
Any image made only gives a purple staticy circle taking up the middle fifth of the file-view. You probably will need to use standard SD cards only (usually those 2GB or less). I can't stress it enough, keep the piece of tape small, you don't want to jam your card in the camera. After an hour I finally decided to Google it and found out all I had to do was move the little teeny lock switch.

The tape on the locking card slot worked great. I have tried my sister's SD card on my camera and it does work so it is not my camera.
